The 911 GT2 took the top-of-the-line 993 Turbo to new heights. Eliminating the front-wheel-drive system, rear seats, power-adjustable front seats, and various other items, trimmed some 500 pounds from the Turbo’s curb weight. In racing form, the M64/60R engine, with its twin intercooled KKK turbochargers, developed 480 bhp; the street version dialled that back a bit to 430, along with 457 foot-pounds of torque at 13 psi. This still equated to only 6.6 pounds per horsepower, a figure that surpassed the venerable 959. All this energy was fed to the rear wheels through a new six-speed transaxle and an asymmetrical 40/60 limited-slip differential.

The GT2’s bodywork included aluminium doors and front trunk lid, as well as a very aggressive aero package, with a front air splitter with up-turned canards and a huge bi-plane rear-deck-mounted wing incorporating air ducts that fed the intercoolers. Special 18-inch-diameter multi-piece “Speedline for Porsche” alloy wheels with aluminium outer rims and magnesium centres filled the bolt-on fiberglass wheel arches.

The result was utterly stunning performance, including a 0–60 mph sprint in less than four seconds and a top speed of nearly 190 mph. The new GT2’s power-assisted ceramic disc brakes were up to the task of bringing the car to a halt without fade. This special group of cars was specially hand-prepared by Roland Kussmaul’s Race-Sports Department and assigned the name 911 GT, while the track versions were labelled GT2. After 1997, both versions carried the GT2 name.

Just 194 street versions of the GT2 were produced with 33 of those being built in a more extreme ‘Clubsport’ guise. Costing an additional DM 16,800 (including VAT) these cars featured a fully stripped out interior, addition of a body-colour painted roll cage, six-point racing harnesses, a battery cut-off switch, fire suppression system, and Recaro bucket seats.

Completed on 10th January, 1996 this left-hand drive, C00 German supplied example was delivered directly from the factory in Stuttgart to its first owner, a Mr Gernot Haverkamp of Delmenhorst. We understand that this example is the only GT2 to be specified from new in special order Blut Orange, a popular Porsche colour from the 60s and 70s. Its factory specification also includes the desirable M003 Clubsport package in addition to Stronger Battery, Without Preparation for Radio, Air Conditioning, and Seat Covers in Cloth.

Mr Haverkamp owned the car for 4 years before selling it to a Jan Henrik Lussen in June, 2000 who registered it near Bremen, Germany. Mr Lussen kept it for the following 5 years, covering just over 20,000 km in the car and regularly servicing it with specialists Sportwagenservice and JH Fahrzeugtechnik. The car was exported out of Germany in late 2005 and was sold to a Mr Cohen of London, U.K. with just over 31,000 km on the odometer. It was first registered for use on the road in the U.K. in January, 2006 and remained in Mr Cohen’s ownership for several years, during which time he covered 17,000 km in the car and maintained it with no-expense spared.

It was purchased by its current owner in 2013, a renowned and dedicated Porsche enthusiast who has enjoyed it for the past decade. During this time, it has been cared for by Porsche specialists Heritage Autowerks in the U.K. and Garage Milliancourt in France. It was most recently serviced in November, 2022 when the aforementioned Garage Milliancourt changed the engine & gearbox oil, replaced all filters, changed the spark plugs, fitted a new clutch, slave cylinder and flywheel, and carried out a full geometry setup on the car.

This unique GT2 Clubsport now sits today in fantastic condition showing 54,300 km from new. It is offered for sale accompanied by its original handbooks, original Fahrzeugbrief, 2 keys, Porsche first aid kit, jack, spare wheel, tool roll, and an extensive history file with invoices and documents dating back to 1996.

The 993 GT2 Clubsport is the most extreme way to enjoy the last of the air-cooled 911s and offers the driver the rawest possible experience.
