Margalla is known as the most successful sedan in Pakistan from the automaker Suzuki. Later on, the OEM came up with different options for saloons like Baleno, Liana, and Ciaz but remained unable to create a mark of differentiation due to their unsatisfactory design appeal and unaesthetic interior. Although, Suzuki has always enjoyed the first badge in making out-class hatchbacks ranging from Mehran to today’s Suzuki Swift.

Purchase Decision

Abdul Wahab bought this 1993 model of Suzuki Margalla at 1.5 lacs in grey colour with a carburetor engine. Margalla first came to the Pakistan market in CBU condition back in 1989 under the badging of Swift and later became available in locally assembled units by 1991.

Modification

As a pure classic car enthusiast, Abdu Wahab converted this Suzuki Margalla into a project car by passing it through endless modifications. Conducting a painting a denting job while keeping the engine stock was the first step of modification. Later he put the Baleno steering, Cultus dashboard, and cluster panel to improve its interior. A black garnish was installed at the back along with powered side mirrors, straight exhaust pipe, Dunlop 13-inch tires, and dropped the ground clearance.

Engine and Fuel Economy

This project car was equipped with the stock Suzuki Margalla 1.3L and four-cylinder G13 engine mated with a 5-speed manual transmission. ‘It gives me 10km/L within the city and 14 to 15km/L on long routes”, shared Abdul Wahab. Maintenance is scheduled after every 3000km which costs him around 6,000.

Project Cost

All in all, including the paint job, modifications, suspension work, and upgradation on the Suzuki Margalla cost around 3 lacs. Consequently, bringing the project cost up to 5 lacs.

Despite the discontinuation of Suzuki Margalla, it is still known for its incomparable performance, practical fuel efficiency, and strong build.
