Almost all luxury compact sedans are well-equipped, well-balanced, entertaining cars. But the one you probably never think about is quietly one of the best. The Genesis G70 may be the best value in the segment, with a lower entry price than rivals like the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Perhaps more power would get your attention?

For 2024, Genesis will bring two good things together. One is the G70. The other is the excellent 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine from the Kia Stinger sport sedan, a short-lived critical darling.

Genesis is the luxury division of Hyundai, which owns part of Kia.

The new engine makes 300 horsepower. It takes the place of the old 252-hp unit in the base version of the G70. That instantly makes it the most powerful base model in its class. It’s enough power that, just to be safe, Genesis has added high-performance Brembo brakes to even the base model of the G70.

Genesis hasn’t announced pricing for 2024. But if the company follows its usual practice of undercutting European rivals on the sticker, the G70 could become both the most affordable option among the luxury compact sedans and the one with the most standard power. That should get a lot of buyers’ attention.

The 2023 model starts at $39,400.

We haven’t driven the G70 with its new base powerplant yet. No one outside Genesis has. But we’ve driven the G70 and the Stinger. It’s easy to see how the lusty 2.5T could drastically improve the car. With its lighter weight, it might even be more fun to drive than the upgraded 3.3-liter V6 you can get if you pay extra.

Other G70 changes for the new model year include new 2-tone interior color schemes, USB-C charging ports, and rear side-impact airbags.
