An astonishing number of 63,000 women joined the queue for driving licenses in the past 11 days, reflecting a massive response to the government’s strict enforcement of licensing regulations.

80% Fail Driving Test

While the surge in license applications is noteworthy, a startling revelation emerged as 80% of the women applicants failed their driving tests. This highlights a critical need for more effective and accessible driving education and training programs in the region.

License Issuance Soars

The recent crackdown has spurred an unprecedented surge in driving license issuance, witnessing a staggering 788% increase in recent weeks. Last week alone, over 60,000 driving licenses were issued, emphasizing the urgency for streamlining the licensing process.

System Overhaul Needed

An official admitted that despite the surge in applications, a significant portion of applicants faced challenges in passing the driving test. Acknowledging the need for improvements, he emphasized the importance of a comprehensive overhaul of the system.

Legal Concerns

Aside from the licensing frenzy, concerns have arisen regarding the Punjab police’s practice of including the names of underage drivers in its criminal records. The Lahore High Court (LHC) recently addressed these concerns, seeking responses from top officials, including IG Punjab.
