“Ram TRX production will conclude at the end of 2023,” the company announced today. The end isn’t forever. “This current chapter in Ram’s high-performance trucks is coming to a close, but it’s not the end of TRX’s story,” said Ram brand CEO Tim Kuniskis. “We’ll have more news to come at a later date.”
Goodby Edition Coming
The outlandish Ram TRX will get a special send-off, the 2024 Ram 1500 TRX 6.2L Supercharged V8 – Final Edition, limited to 4,000 examples.
The Ram 1500 TRX 6.2L Supercharged V8 – Final Edition will be available at a starting price of $117,625, plus a mandatory $1,995 destination fee. Ram says orders will start in the fourth quarter of 2023.
The Apex Predator of Pickups
The TRX (“T-Rex,” if you’re talking to a dedicated Ram fan) is one of the most extreme trucks ever built by a mainstream manufacturer. Ram designed the truck to make the most of a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine, making 702 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque. Combined with a TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission, that gave it a wait-how-is-that-a-truck zero-to-sixty sprint of 4.5 seconds.
Ford inaugurated the modern supertruck competition with its F-150 Raptor. But that truck has always been about its suspension, not its engine. Ram’s big engine forced Ford’s hand – Ford answered with a V8-equipped Raptor R last year. But the Blue Oval flinched, giving it two less horsepower than the dinosaur.
Final Edition Details
The Final Edition rides on Satin Titanium beadlock-capable wheels and gets a hood badge and bed decal calling out its special status. Buyers can choose from “eight exterior colors, including three new and unique ones – Delmonico Red, Night Edge Blue and Harvest Sunrise,” Ram says.
Inside, Final Editions wear 4×4 weave matte carbon fiber on the instrument panel, doors, console, and steering wheel. They get numbered plaques showing their build order on the center console and a unique splash screen on startup.
Additional standard equipment includes a 19-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system, a head-up display, and 8-way power driver and passenger seats.
The Future — An Electric T-Rex?
As for the future, we can only speculate. Ram parent company Stellantis has been trimming its Hemi-powered offerings, with the Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger, and Chrysler 300 all headed for the history books after 2023. The two Dodge models will get an electric replacement.
We could well see an animatronic electric-powered T-Rex in the near future. After all, this truck’s entire name is the 2024 Ram 1500 TRX 6.2L Supercharged V8 Final Edition. Perhaps it’s not the final TRX. Just the final TRX with a 6.2L Supercharged V8.
Ram recently took the wraps off its first electric pickup, the 2025 Ram 1500 REV. Electric trucks offer performance options never possible with gasoline. Ram hasn’t given out specifications on the REV yet. But the quickest version of Ford’s F-150 Lightning jumps from 0-60 mph quicker than the TRX. Tesla claims its upcoming Cybertruck will get from standstill to 60 mph in “as little as 2.9 seconds.”
Ram might be reluctant to sell a hyper-powerful gas truck that can’t match them. But it could probably overpower its electric pickup to provide an answer.
