Here in the shop and showroom, our team is always searching for the next “up-and-coming” collector cars. With over 30 years in business, plenty of collector cars have moved through the market, and we’ve been lucky to work with many different makes and models. This time around we’ll cover two models currently in the showroom that are still on the rise. Join us as we highlight this market moment with the Bavarian Moment.
The most prevalent German brands in the restoration world are often the Porsche and Mercedes-Benz classics. Mercedes’ longstanding legacy of luxury continues to intrigue young collectors with the chance to experience the pinnacle of luxury and power with models like the Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5 and the MB 300SEL 6.3 we’ve recently done some restoration work on.
Over the past decade, the classic Porsche models have also taken off in the restoration as time moves further from the beloved air-cooled production run. While these two brands have been considered “worthwhile” for extensive restorations, we are beginning to see many BMW models push their way into the same path, especially with the early ‘M’ cars and the brand pushing the limits of late 80s and early 90s front-engine sportscars.
This isn’t our first foray into the world of BMW, as Tom, Pat, and a few of our technicians love their classic Bavarians. We’ve sold a small handful of the earlier models, including the 2002tii in ‘Colorado Orange’ that rolled out late last year. While the guys in the showroom are constantly building their experience around these cars, the technicians have been working with the BMW Isetta and 3.0CS for restoration, wiring, and refresh services.
While the pair of classic red rollers were being worked on, the showroom acquired an excellent ‘driver example’ BMW E30 M3 in Cinnabar Red. This is the second E30 generation of M3 we’ve had the chance to sell over the past few years, and our guys couldn’t be more excited to show it off. Tom and Pat have identified a few things to be addressed on the car as we get it ready for sale. With just over 100,000 miles, this M3 is an excellent example of what the M division was created for; to offer homologation racing speeds and streetcar comfort. Keep an eye out as Tom and Pat continue to show off this E30 M3 as we help find the next caretaker.
The M3 rolled in for some quick cleanup en-route to the showroom, but this 1991 BMW 850i stopped by mainly for our Dry Ice detailing services. This Diamond Schwartz metallic example is a one-owner car that has enjoyed life at an altitude up in Aspen, Colorado. With just over 60,000 miles on the clock it’s still got plenty of collectability. The owner drove this example over to have the car cleaned up after a recent service. Once we’d had the car for a little while, the owner knew it was time to sell. Thankfully our showroom is just down the block and we were happy to get it moved over. Now we’ve just got it listed on the site earlier this morning and now it’s ready to roll!
While the BMWs seem to be on the rise, we are always looking to keep the guys busy up in the shop. We’ve recently seen a slew of 280SL, 80s BMWs and of course the tried-and-tested Porsche air-cooled restorations. If you have a classic needing a bit of attention, some detailing, or help with the sale, give us a call at 303-761-1245, or you can always send us an email: info@farlandcars.com.
