If there’s one thing that people of all ages love, it’s getting the absolute bejeezus startled out of them—which might be why we’ve dedicated an entire month to it.
Contrary to its name, the Sunshine State has no shortage of hair-raising attractions to help you celebrate the spooky season the right way. So, if you live in South Florida, let’s check out some of the scariest haunted houses near you this year.
Catskill Haunts
Commons Park – 11600 Poinciana Blvd., Royal Palm Beach, FL 33411
To start our list this year, we have one of the best family haunted attractions near West Palm Beach.
The main show consists of four separate haunts—Haunted Mansion, Spooky Graveyard, Creepy Carnival, and our personal favorite, Zombie Attack. Each of these is priced modestly, at only 10 dollars per person per attraction, so the whole crew can have a blast without breaking the bank.
Parkgoers with kiddos in tow can also visit the pumpkin patch, prop shop, makeup studio, and three separate bounce houses.
Hours for this popular haunted house near you are Friday and Saturday from 7 pm to 11 pm.
Nightmare Village at Xtreme Action Park
5300 Powerline Rd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309
This venue has long since been a go-to spot for teens and adults alike, and for Halloween, they’re doing it up big with two new haunts.
In The Seventh Gate, join the famed archaeologist Father Ambrose as he uncovers the dark secrets of a haunted book. Meanwhile, the Carnival of Carnage takes you on a thrilling tour of a clown-infested mental asylum. Be warned—this may normally be a kid-friendly place, but only the bravest of little ones should come along for the ride.
Hours vary from week to week, so be sure to check the site for details.
House of Horror Haunted Carnival
Miami International Mall – 1625 NW 107th Ave., Doral, FL 33172
You may be noticing a theme here—everyone agrees that clowns can be pretty terrifying.
These folks claim to put on the largest Halloween experience in South Florida, and now that it’s in its 21st year of running, it’s better than ever. HOH boasts four separate haunted house attractions as the main event, but that’s far from all there is to experience. Scare fanatics of all ages will have a great time playing carnival games at the House of Horror Midway, and rides for both kids and adults will be available outside the central venue. Kids 6 and under are not permitted inside the haunted houses, so be sure to plan accordingly so you don’t miss out on one of the best Halloween attractions near you.
This Miami Halloween event is open late six days a week; and closed on Mondays.
The Horrorland
Jungle Island – 1111 Parrot Jungle Trail, Miami, FL 33132
This one was voted the best Halloween attraction in South Florida in 2020 and 2021, and for 2023 it appeared on the USA Today 10Best list.
The heart-stopping Horrorland event is family-friendly, but some areas are more teen and adult-oriented and may be a bit too intense for children 12 and under. In total, this enormous event has five main haunted attractions, eight outdoor zones, and a selection of carnival games. It also features a macabre food village with inventive confections and a Coffin Bar with delicious concoctions. The best part? All you need is one ticket, and you get access to all of it.
The Horrorland is open Thursday through Sunday and on Halloween night.
No Way Out Miami
Dolphin Mall – 11401 NW 12th St., Miami, FL 33172
This attraction haunts the carcass of the old TGI Fridays by the entrance of the mall and features the Insomnia haunted house. NWO has been consistently regarded as one of the best horror experiences in the U.S., and it’s truly something you have to see to believe.
After you’ve had your wits scared out of you, join the crowd at the Monster Lounge, which is free to enter and features delicious food and drink, as well as a DJ spinning spooky tunes. If you dare attend, this is sure to be one of the best adult haunted houses of the year.
This event is open five days a week, excluding Tuesday and Wednesday. Be sure to grab your tickets in advance, especially if you plan on attending during the weekend when the party doesn’t stop until the stroke of midnight.
