With an aim to make roads safe and environment sustainable for the masses, the provincial government has started taking significant steps. The Punjab’s incumbent interim government has banned the entry of vehicles with no car fitness certificates and permits on highways and motorways.
This decision, endorsed in the presence of Caretaker Chief Minister Moshin Naqvi, marks a crucial collaboration between the government and the National Highways and Motorway Police.
The details
The recently signed agreements mandate the Punjab Transport Department and the motorway Police to actively share information regrading vehicles fitness and route permits. To ensure the effective implementation of this initiative, focal persons will be appointed by both departments to oversee the seamless exchange of information and enforce compliance with the rules.
The proactive measures are observed as a part of provincial government’s broader
broader strategy to combat environmental challenges, particularly the issue of smog in Punjab. Caretaker CM Mohsin Naqvi, during the ceremony, commended the environmentally friendly initiative and emphasized its role in creating a healthier and cleaner environment for the residents of Punjab.
In a parallel effort to regulate unregistered Chingchi rickshaws, CM Naqvi announced a one-month window for owners to register their vehicles for free. After this period, unregistered rickshaws will not be permitted on the roads. This move not only contributes to road safety but also aligns with the government’s commitment to organized and regulated transport systems
Furthermore, in a bid to enhance emergency response capabilities, the caretaker CM unveiled plans for a trauma center along the Lahore-Islamabad M2 Motorway, supported by the National Highway Authority. This development underscores the government’s dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of commuters on these vital transportation arteries.
The introduction of mandatory car fitness certificates and route permits for motorway entry reflects a commendable effort to ensure a safe journey and a better environment.
