It’s been weeks, and the Punjab government has wryly extended the crackdown against individuals having no valid driving license. The drive veered off to a tense position after a teenager crashed his vehicle into a family car, resulting in the tragic loss of six lives from the same family.

In the aftermath of this horrible accident, the provincial administration launched a strict clampdown against teenage drivers. Punjab’s caretaker chief minister spearheaded the action, announcing an FIR would be lodged against the underage drivers and those driving without valid licenses.

Meanwhile, a couple of days ago, the provincial government also announced a surge in annual license fees, but the decision didn’t come into effect.

In a recent tweet, Lahore Traffic Police announced that a new fee structure for driving licenses has been imposed in Punjab. As per the tweet, the fee for learner driving has been increased to Rs. 500. Whereas Rs. 980 would be charged for an annual regular driving license.

Moreover, citizens failed to comply with the instructions to secure their license will have to face the consequence of spending a night or two in the police station.

Online Registration

To facilitate the people, traffic police launched an online service for the people. The groundbreaking decision aims to simplify and streamline the licensing process, considering the surge in the number of people applying for licenses in the region.

Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi spearheaded the launch of this online facility on a significant Sunday. Citizens can now conveniently apply for their learner’s licenses through the Punjab Police app or at any of the 737 police stations and Khidmat Marakiz scattered across the province.

Renew Driving License Online

People can renew their licenses through the online system. The candidates can renew their licenses for one, three, five, and ten years. Meanwhile, an international driving license will remain valid for three years.

The masses can download their local and international e-licenses easily, the announcement said, adding that these candidates would no longer have to take physical driving tests.
