This is good news for commuters as the Gujranwala Motorway link road has been opened for traffic. Making the announcement, caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, stated on Twitter: “5th February, 2024. Big news from Gujranwala! Alhamdullilah, the Gujranwala Expressway is now open, linking M5 with Benazir Chowk.” He further noted that this 15.2 km expressway will significantly cut the travel time between Lahore and Gujranwala to just 45 minutes.

Earlier, the government announced that the mega project would be completed on December 25, 2023. However, it was a few days late. This ambitious project aims to establish a crucial two-lane connection between Gujranwala and the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway, enhancing regional transportation infrastructure.

The completion of this project is an indication of the effective collaboration between the government and the FWO, fostering optimism among the public about the timely completion of this critical infrastructure development.

This reduction in commute time is not just a matter of convenience; it’s a transformative change that will have a positive impact on the region’s economic activities, trade, and overall development. The road was a long-standing demand of the people of Gujranwala, and now it will especially facilitate the people doing regular travel between the two cities.

Furthermore, it will reduce the burden on Grand Trunk (GT) Road, which was the only major road between these two cities and mostly remains under construction in different patches. This expressway will also link the adjacent villages and small towns of Gujranwala, giving them a fast route of transportation.
