The city of Lahore is buzzing with a remarkable achievement that has set a new record. In a surprising turn of events, a whopping 12,951 learner licenses were issued within a span of just 24 hours. This unprecedented surge in license registrations comes right after the news of the Punjab Police’s proposal for license fee hike.

The official Twitter account of Lahore Traffic Police shared this remarkable feat with the world. The tweet announced the groundbreaking achievement, celebrating the thousands of individuals who chose to take a step towards responsible driving. It’s not just about numbers; it’s about fostering a sense of awareness and accountability within every citizen.

Lahore Traffic Police Crackdown

This surge in learner licenses might also be the result of the Lahore City Traffic Police’s crackdown against drivers without licenses. In May 2023, the Lahore traffic department got tough on people who were driving without proper licenses. They gave fines to many of these drivers, warned over 22,000 people who were driving with just a learner’s permit, and punished more than 6,000 whose licenses had already expired.

The police emphasized a strict ‘zero-tolerance’ approach to non-compliance, urging citizens to verify their licenses’ validity before hitting the road.

License Fee Hike

The Punjab Police has proposed a substantial increase in license fees to generate more revenue and enhance road safety. The proposal suggests significant fee hikes across various license categories. Motorcycle license fees could surge by 263.64%, from Rs. 550 to Rs. 2,000, while LTV license fees might soar by 321.05%, from Rs. 950 to Rs. 4,000. HTV license fees could experience a remarkable 788.89% increase, from Rs. 450 to Rs. 4,000. Even learner license fees could jump from Rs. 60 to Rs. 500, a 733.33% change. This proposal also extends to International Driving Licenses, with a potential fee of Rs. 4,000.
