Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 1987 Chevrolet K5 Blazer Silverado 4×4.

Rugged, truck-based engineering made the original Blazer a favorite among outdoorsy people for its go-anywhere, haul-anything capability. Today’s example takes the already-potent chassis and amplifies it with a 2.5-inch Pro Comp lifted suspension, BFGoodrich all-terrain tires, LED lighting, polished aluminum valve covers, and a custom exhaust system. In all, the upgrades total over $18,000 in receipts. This modified SUV is now being offered by a dealership in Seattle, Washington. The auction ends this Friday.

Since 1969, the Blazer name has been part of the Chevrolet family, and it has spanned a wide range of sport-utility vehicles during that time. Some have been based on full-size trucks, others (like the S-10 Blazer) were compact trucks, some were crossovers, and the latest iteration which just went on sale earlier this year is a fully-electric vehicle that shares battery architecture with the Cadillac Lyriq, the Honda Prologue, and the Acura ZDX. Needless to say, the Blazer has come a long way in its 50-year-plus history.

The 1973 through 1991 Blazers (and, by design, the equivalent GMC Jimmys) were essentially C/K-Series pickups, just with smaller dimensions. Some models – particularly the earlier ones – came with a removable convertible top. The 1987 model featured today reportedly received over $3,600 in recent paint work as well as a $500 window tint job. It is also upgraded with LED lighting, chrome side steps, and a trailer hitch, not to mention a shiny set of polished aluminum Mickey Thompson 17-inch wheels. 

Looking at the CARFAX history, it’s no wonder this rig is so rust-free: While the report doesn’t start until 1996, it shows long-term southwest-region ownership in Nevada and Arizona. Interestingly enough, there was registration issued in June of this year in British Columbia, but a new owner reported just two months later in Seattle where the vehicle remains today. It’s fun to piece together every vehicle’s life story, and this truck probably has an interesting one to share.

Plush interior provisions were sourced from a later-model General Motors vehicle with captain’s chairs, and the cabin is nicely appointed with power windows, power steering, a tilt steering column, air conditioning, cruise control, and a Kenwood audio system. After all, just because a vehicle is capable of roughing it doesn’t necessarily mean the driver needs to do the same.
