Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 2004 Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

At just 18,948 miles accrued on the odometer over the course of about 20 years, this C5 Corvette has undoubtedly spent its life under the stewardship of an enthusiast. It is now being offered on AutoHunter by a dealer in Belvidere, Illinois, and the auction will end on Monday, November 27.

Chevy truly saved the “best for last” when it came to building this car. As the fifth-generation Corvette rolled toward into its final year of production in 2004, engineers upped the ante when it came to both handling and performance. The Z06 model, which debuted in 2001, took the already-capable Corvette and gave it a tuned LS6 engine that was initially rated at 385 horsepower and later bumped to 405 horsepower. The only available transmission for the Z06 was a six-speed manual, so this car required complete driver engagement.

The chassis, too, received enhancements – beginning with a structurally rigid “fixed roof coupe” (FRC) body layout and a unique silhouette. Added to the mix were a titanium exhaust system, lighter wheels, revised gearing ratios, an “FE4” upgraded suspension, and functional brake cooling ducts. The car became a beast on the streets as well as at the track. It’s impressive that the owner of today’s feature car was able to drive it so sparingly.

Another “last hurrah” worth mentioning with regard to the C5 was that it was one of the last production cars in the world with pop-up headlights. There were a number of reasons why pop-ups were phased out, and one of them was the evolution of safety standards when it came to pedestrian protection.

The license plate on the Millennium Yellow car says “MY EVIL Z,” which is a perfect name for this all-out sports car. The dealer has included a video of the car at idle, and it sounds great from every angle. We bet it would sound even better at wide-open throttle.

Included with the sale is a window sticker showing the car’s original retail price of $54,070. It will be fun to see what it goes for when the auction concludes. If you have had your eye on a top-trim, final-year C5, they don’t get much more appealing than this!

The auction for this 2004 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 ends Monday, November 27, 2023, at 12:45 p.m. (MST)
