A week after the caretaker government of Punjab increased driving license fee in the province, the move may face a suspension following a petition filed against it in the Lahore High Court (LHC).
Rana Ali Hasnain, a citizen, has engaged the services of his lawyer to present the case before the provincial apex court, listing the Punjab government, Inspector General Punjab, and other officials as respondents in the petition.
The petitioner contends that the hike in driving license fees is unlawful and questions the caretaker government’s jurisdiction to enforce such a decision. In his plea, the citizen asserts that the caretaker government’s role is limited to overseeing day-to-day affairs and does not extend to making decisions with lasting implications for the citizens.
Rana Ali Hasnain urges the court to issue orders for the retraction of the notification and instruct the relevant officials to issue licenses at the previous rate.
