In a city known for its serene beauty and modernity, recent infrastructure mishaps have left Islamabad residents and netizens in dismay. The newly-constructed road along a bridge in G10/4 could not withstand the force of the first monsoon rain, causing public outrage and concerns over poor construction practices. With social media as their megaphone, citizens are demanding accountability and quality assurance from the civic agency.
ہے… pic.twitter.com/azd61bNTeV

New Road, Old Problems
An investment of Rs. 80 million should promise a sturdy and reliable road, but the reality for the newly-constructed bridge and its adjoining road has been far from satisfactory. As the heavens opened up with the first monsoon rain, the road’s shoulders crumbled, leaving behind a dangerous and blind ditch that poses a serious risk to motorists. The lack of street lights only adds to the peril, making the road prone to life-threatening accidents.
Sadly, the crumbling road in G10/4 is not an isolated incident. The Bara Kahu overpass project, once meant to enhance connectivity and ease traffic, has turned into a notorious example of poor quality, execution, and workmanship. A recent incident captured on a Twitter video showed a section of the structure collapsing onto a passing car, causing damage and endangering lives. Although the passengers and driver escaped with minor injuries, the incident triggered public fury toward the authorities responsible for overseeing such projects.
A Month of Unfortunate Events
March 2023 proved to be an unfortunate month for the Bara Kahu overpass project, witnessing not one but two significant accidents. One incident occurred due to the collapse of shuttering, while the other saw a significant section of the bridge crumbling to the ground. Such repeated failures have left the public questioning the competence and vigilance of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and other authorities.
