Hi all,
I wanted to share the story of my 2007 Hyundai Sonata that I recently donated to Habitat for Humanity as part of their Cars For Homes initiative.
I was extremely blessed to receive this car from my parents in high school. Having grown up in the suburbs, it became my gateway to the world. This car drove me and my younger brothers to school and later to college. My gearhead brother made his first car modifications on it. It was instrumental in my life as it brought me to volunteer work at HomeSharing inc., my first job at UPS, and eventually to Allentown, PA where I started my career as a software developer.
In Allentown, I started volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and really fell in love with the organization’s mission and ethos. This Hyundai drove me to many a worksite on “Habitat Hill”, a beautiful set of homes built by a of group dedicated and skilled volunteers on a hill overlooking the Lehigh Valley.
As I’ve since moved near an area with multiple modes of public transportation, I have driven this car sparingly in the past few years. After serving my family and I faithfully for over 15 years, to me it feels right to donate my Hyundai to a cause I believe in and — in some small way — that this car was part of.
Best
Justin
