In response to a tragic incident that claimed the lives of six family members, the Lahore Traffic Police  has decided to take stern measures to curb underage driving in the provincial capital.

The incident, which occurred in Defence Phase 7, involved an underage driver who, driving at over 100 kilometers per hour, caused the untimely demise of 45-year-old Rukhsana and 5 others.

In a bid to prevent such heartbreaking incidents from occurring again, CTP has established around 200 checkpoints at various locations across Lahore. These checkpoints will conduct thorough inspections to identify and penalize underage drivers.

The Clampdown

This crackdown is not limited to the young drivers alone; traffic police will also take action against the parents of underage individuals found behind the wheel. This comprehensive approach aims to address the root causes of underage driving and create a deterrent for both young drivers and their guardians.

The decision to take strict action comes in the wake of a rising trend of accidents involving underage drivers. Afnan, the 8th-grade student responsible for the recent tragedy, admitted to driving recklessly at an alarming speed.

This revelation underscores the urgent need for measures to tackle the issue of underage driving and its potentially catastrophic consequences.

By implementing these stringent measures, CTP is not only seeking justice for the victims but also working to prevent future tragedies. The establishment of checkpoints and the accountability of parents send a clear message that underage driving will not be tolerated, emphasizing the importance of responsible driving habits from an early age.

The hope is that these measures will serve as a deterrent and contribute to making Lahore’s roads safer for everyone. As the community mourns the loss of innocent lives, the City Traffic Police’s proactive approach signals a commitment to creating a safer, more responsible driving culture in the provincial capital.
