Toyota Corolla Cross is one of Pakistan’s most anticipated locally assembled crossover SUVs. Indus Motor Company (IMC) has invested $ 100 million in developing hybrid vehicles in Pakistan, and Cross is the first product of this initiative. There have been multiple rumors rifting in the market about the possible launch of Corolla Cross in Pakistan, and they got strong after IMC showed the first locally assembled unit of this crossover SUV to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in June 2023.
Corolla Cross Shown to PM
A delegation from Indus Motor Company (IMC), led by Vice Chairman Shinji Yanagi and Chief Executive Ali Asghar Jamali, met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and showed him the first locally-made Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV). Toyota Asia President, Yoshiki Konishi, was also attended the meeting and is also the chief designer of the Corolla Cross.
During the meeting, the premier praised IMC’s initiative to produce Pakistan’s first locally-manufactured hybrid HEV SUV. He emphasized further localization of the vehicles in the country along with their export. Sharif assured to uphold the HEV incentives in Auto Policy 2021-2026. Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar also appreciated the new product stating how it would benefit the country economically and environmentally.
Possible Launch
Earlier, it was expected that the car would be launched in June-July 2023, but due to the current economic situation, it seems it has been delayed. Now, our reliable sources have come with another update as they claim that the locally assembled Corolla Cross will be launched in Pakistan in December 2023 or January 2024. However, economic stability is a must for this possible launch. The volatile situation in the country has paused a number of possible launches, while it has been affecting the production of several car companies during the last year or so.
The auto industry is hoping that the situation will get better and the activities come back to normal.
