M-Tag Service Made Compulsory
In December 2021, the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) enforced the mandatory use of M-Tag for travel on motorways. In a tweet, the police announced that M-Tag had become an essential requirement on motorways.
This decision was implemented in accordance with the orders of the Lahore High Court (LHC) and in collaboration with the cooperation of citizens. The police further clarified that, as per the LHC’s ruling, only M-Tag users were permitted to travel on the motorways starting from December 7th, 2021.
The objective behind this decision was to address the issue of long queues of vehicles at toll plazas. By making M-Tag mandatory, it was aimed to streamline the traffic flow and reduce congestion on the motorways. Additionally, this measure was expected to contribute to the reduction of air pollution resulting from traffic blockades caused by toll plaza delays.
How to Get an M-Tag?
Acquiring an M-Tag for your vehicle is a straightforward process. Simply visit the M-Tag issuance booth located at any Toll Plaza on the motorway.
To complete the application, ensure you have the following documents on hand: your CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card), Driving License, and Vehicle Registration Book. These documents are essential for the police to issue the M-Tag for your vehicle. The good news is that there are no charges for obtaining a new M-Tag sticker for your car.
Place the M-Tag Registration Sticker on the inside of your car’s windshield, preferably at the top right corner. It is important to note that the sticker should be affixed on the inside of the windshield, not on the outside. You can find additional important information regarding the M-Tag on the provided link.
