Having introduced the limited edition Diablo GT at Geneva in March ‘99, Lamborghini followed up with a GT-based one-make racer to replace the outgoing SVR that had been used in the Supertrophy since 1996.

Compared to the GT, the GTR featured an additional 15bhp (590bhp) thanks to re-mapped engine management and specially tuned LIE Speed Density electronic sequential multi-point injection. A competition exhaust without any cats was also installed.

Elsewhere, adjustable Koni dampers firmed up the handling, ride height was dropped and the brake system was uprated with beefier discs and calipers. New one-piece 18-inch magnesium wheels were supplied by Speedline and originally shod with slick Pirelli rubber.

To save time in the pits, each GTR was fitted with a hydraulic air-jack system. Safety gear included a roll cage, carbon seat with six-point harness, fire system and FIA-spec. fuel cell.

Other special GTR equipment included an adjustable rear spoiler, Plexiglas side windows, a lightweight steering wheel and myriad cooling solutions. In total, 65kg was trimmed from the GT (1395kg as opposed to 1460kg).

Currently on offer with Bingo Sports in Tokyo is number 18 of the 30 official GTRs built.

Painted the GTR launch colour of Giallo with Nero alcantara upholstery, it has covered just 6700km from new and appears to be in superb original condition.

Reprinted below is Bingo Sports’ description for this mint low mileage Diablo GTR:

  • 18 of 30

  • VIN: ZA9EAGTR0YLA12491

  • Mileage: 6761 kilometers

  • Exterior Color: Yellow

Number 18 of 30 of the race car version of the Diablo GT, made for Lamborghini’s one make series. Compared to the Diablo GT, power was increased by 15hp to 590hp at 7300rpm and torque was also increased, by 10Nm to 640Nm at 5500rpm.

The Diablo GTR had a lot of spare parts that were supplied along with the production of the car, and it is said that there are several “GTR spec” cars that use those parts in addition to the official 30 cars. However this example has an official numbering plate that proves this car was the 18th of 30 produced at the Lamborghini factory.

This car has been carefully kept in its original state and is in excellent condition both inside and out. The Alcantara on the dashboard and steering wheel have not deteriorated in any noticeable way, making this a highly valuable car from a preservation point of view.
