Pakistan is going to make a significant step in global motorsports arena. The Punjab Tourism, Archaeology, and Museums Department, along with the Punjab Tourism Development Corporation (TDCP), is spearheading the nation’s debut in the prestigious international Dakar Rally.

Faisal Shadikhel and Zafar Shadikhel, triumphant winners of the February 2023 13th Cholistan Jeep Rally will represent Pakistan and the TDCP in this year’s Dakar Rally. The duo, hailing from Multan, is set to compete as drivers in the challenging terrains of Saudi Arabia.

Departure & Anticipation

As the three-day Dakar Rally kicks off, Faisal and Zafar have already left Pakistan for Saudi Arabia. Secretary of Tourism Raja Jahangir Anwar, in a special media briefing, expressed pride in Pakistan’s representation in the Dakar Rally for the first time. He lauded the impeccable arrangements by the FIA teams and highlighted the historical significance of this occasion.

The Dakar Rally, recognized as the world’s largest rally unfolds across a formidable track spanning in over 5,000 kilometers. With participants from over 100 countries, this year’s event take place in the deserts of Saudi Arabia, providing a rigorous test for the participating teams.

Secretary Anwar emphasized TDCP’s pivotal role in the motorsports landscape, especially its initiation of the Jeep Rally in the deserts of Thal and Cholistan. This initiative paved the way for similar rallies in other provinces, showcasing Pakistan’s growing prominence in international motorsports.

International Recognition

The upcoming nineteenth International Cholistan Jeep Rally in February is already gaining international recognition from the federation of International Automobile. The event attracts drivers from numerous nations solidifying the country’s position on the global motorsport map.
