After a brief uptick for a month or two, there has been another downturn in car sales. According to the latest report from the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), there was a significant 8% decrease in month-on-month (MoM) car sales, with 9,709 units sold in February 2023 compared to 10,536 vehicles in January 2023.
However, in a year-on-year (YoY) analysis, there’s been a stark increase of 57%. Car manufacturers managed to sell 6,186 cars during the same period last year.
Two & Three Wheelers
Similarly, there was a notable 10% decline in sales of two and three-wheelers, reaching 93,764 units last month compared to 104,619 units sold in January 2024. Particularly significant is the 11% decrease in sales for Honda, a prominent Japanese motorcycle manufacturer, which sold 82,104 units last month, compared to 92,041 units in January 2024.
Meanwhile, Pak Suzuki also experienced a slight 3% decrease, selling 1,446 units last month compared to 1,484 bikes in January 2024.
Trucks & Buses
Sales of trucks and buses experienced a remarkable surge of 46% month-on-month (MoM), with 353 units sold last month compared to 1242 in January 2024.
Company-Wise Sales Breakdown
Toyota Pakistan witnessed a 26% decrease in sales, selling 2,036 units last month compared to 2,762 vehicles in January 2024.
Honda Atlas observed a decline of 13%, selling 1,517 units last month compared to 1,339 units in January 2024.
Pak Suzuki Motors Company’s sales increased by 7%, selling 4,885 vehicles against 4,550 cars in January 2024.
Hyundai Nishat experienced a 7% drop, selling 567 units last month compared to 607 units in January 2024.
It is worth mentioning that sales numbers for Kia Lucky Motors, Master Changan Motors, Regal Motors, MG Motors, and Al-Haj Proton are not included in the report as they are not PAMA members.
Car-Wise Sales Breakdown
PSMC (Pakistan Suzuki Motor Company) sold 3,373 units of Alto, 320 units of Suzuki Cultus, 136 units of Suzuki Wagon R, 663 units of Suzuki Swift, 183 units of Suzuki Bolan, and 210 units of Suzuki Ravi.
Toyota Indus sold 1,759 units of Corolla and Yaris, and 277 units of Fortuner and Hilux.
Honda Atlas sold 1,375 units of City and Civic, and 142 units of BR-V .
Hyundai Nishat sold 89 units of Elantra, 55 units of Sonata, 201 units of Porter, and 222 units of Tucson.
