In another step towards digitalization in the province, the Punjab Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Department has launched a virtual registration card for vehicles. It is to be noted that the non-issuance of registration cards has long been an issue for new vehicle owners because they were not being issued to them while traffic police were imposing a fine for not having a registration card. Launching this digital card will resolve a serious issue for vehicle owners in Punjab.
As per a social media post by the department, citizens who have registered their vehicles but have yet to receive the cards can now visit its website and get a digital one. “The owners have to visit this link and enter their registration and chassis number to get a virtual card,” the department announced.
After getting the card, the owners can download the card and save it in their mobiles after getting it.
In a tweet, the department announced it is “introducing Punjab’s first e-title document, E-Registration Card.”

This is a good step by the Excise department because it will resolve a serious issue for the vehicle owners and save them from traffic fines and other legal hassles. This is not the first major step of digitalization by the Punjab government for vehicle owners. Earlier, the government and traffic police announced that citizens can get new learner permits online and renew their driving licenses digitally.
The government also launched an e-driving license for the people to show it to traffic wardens to avoid legal action. These steps are quite convenient for people as they can get these important documents while in the comfort of their homes. The government should take more such steps and announce new policies so that the citizens can benefit from them.
