A Step toward sustainable solution to plastic waste
Plastic roads embody a strategy highlighting sustainable construction practices as plastic along with other materials is entirely or partially used in it. World Bank’s recent report has revealed that plastic roads are getting recognition across the globe as it is considered a sustainable solution to plastic waste. Above all, it has spells of supremacy over coal tar-based roads.
As per the report published by ‘Yale School of Environment’ India initiated constructing plastic roads two decades ago, spanned over approximately 60,000 miles across the country. Furthermore, other countries including Britain, Europe, various parts of Asia, Vietnam, Mexico South Africa, United States and Philippines are all set to follow the trend.
Asia’s First Blue Road in Lahore
Earlier in May’23, the Punjab Central Business District Development Authority (PCBDDA) launched an innovative concept in Lahore called the “Blue Road,” making it the first city in Pakistan and Asia to adopt this sustainable technology with an aim to improve the city’s infrastructure and the quality of life for its residents.
The Blue Road includes several energy-conserving features, including a specialized coating that reflects sunlight and reduces the amount of heat absorbed by the road surface. This reflective coating also improves visibility for drivers at night, making the roads safer for everyone.
