Ah, the dark arts of the showroom service. As many a driver knows, you hand over more than your keys when entrusting your wheels – and everything else – to the garage for your service. Whether it’s a minor check or a major up-on-blocks overhaul, it’s a job for experts. And if that’s you, Design 911 has all you want to do everything you need.
Porsche recommends that your Cayenne undergoes the ‘major maintenance’ service at 40,000, 80,000, 120,000, and 160,000 miles; if you prefer to calibrate intervals in time not distance, think four years, eight years, twelve years, and sixteen years. However you plan it, keeping your Cayenne running as it should requires periodic interventions. So, let’s go to work.
Ignition sequence started…
Even the brightest spark will dim over time so keeping your engine firing on every cylinder demands fresh plugs. We have the spark plugs, glow plugs and coils to keep the fire alive, while this gearbox oil sump gasket and filter kit helps to keep your oil pure.
One of the trickier tasks for any Porsche owner is the full timing chain change. It’s not a job for everyone, but anyone can put themselves in the best place to succeed with this timing chain change kit for camshaft and oil pump. If you’re in the market for an engine timing change adjuster or timing chain cover gasket, you’re in the right place.
Stop!
Tipping the scales at more than 2,500 kg, the Cayenne is one of the heavier SUVs on the market – the Turbo S is a mighty three tons of rolling iron. It more than pulls its own weight, having once towed a 256 ton Airbus A380 more than 42 metres, but a unit that big takes some stopping, too. You’ll need to service your brakes, so ‘stop’ this way. The most economical – and simplest – option is to buy your pads and discs as a package, and if you’re driving a Cayenne 958 hybrid, then better stopping starts here.
Shocks, no surprises.
On a car this heavy, changing your shock absorbers is important too. If you opt for poor quality pattern parts, then the shocks may not end once you’ve fitted the replacement units. You don’t want to have to do this twice, right? So go for these Bilstein B4 air shock absorbers, with DampTronic, front and rear. Perfectly adapted to suit series-production electronic adjustment systems – perfect for the 957 and 958 – these shocks promise ‘outstanding driving dynamics’ and ‘high power reserves for maximum safety’. If you drive the Cayenne S Hybrid or Turbo, then find your Bilstein shocks here.
Need track rods? Here’s a steer…
Track rods are not nice to have, cosmetic components. They ensure that the steering rack translates what you do with the steering wheel to the front wheels. The track rod ends attach to the swivel hubs and as moving parts will eventually reach end of life. You’ll notice a degradation in steering and handling, and in your current account when your Cayenne fails its MoT. It’s not an area for compromise, so our track rods are either original Porsche, OEM standard, or made to exacting standards by industry-leading manufacturers.
