“Internal Combustion Engines will never go old-fashioned” announces Toyota’s former CEO and current President. In a country like Pakistan where electric vehicles are associated with hundreds of myths, we are pretty sure the electric revolution is far to come.
Toyota in 2023
Toyota is one of the key players in the Asian auto market. By selling 11,233,039 units worldwide it had an impactful sales figure. But to our surprise, the EVs contributed only 0.9% of this sales figure. That makes 104,018 cars combined by Toyota and Lexus. This led the manufacturer to make more Internal Combustion Engines in the future. According to Chairman Akio Toyoda, the automaker sells cars in a wide market where billions of people live without electricity therefore, a complete switch to EVs would disrupt the buyers’ trust in the brand.
Dark Future of EVs
The President believes that the battery EVs will never exceed a market share of 30% due to the slow charging infrastructure worldwide. This was one of the reasons that automotive biggie General Motors took back its decision regarding plug-in-hybrids in North America.
Lexus Going All-Electric
Toyota has proved itself to be unfashionably back, still leading the market share. With the announcement of developing more combustion engines in the upcoming year, it confirms that Lexus, which is the premium brand of Toyota will halt the production of gasoline cars.
Toyota Believes in Hydrogen-Burning Combustion Engines
Toyota has been the leader in hybrid and plug-in hybrid technology since the launch of the 1997 Prius. Still, it is not ready to make a hasty move into the all-electric future. In fact, it still believes that the Hydrogen Combustion Engines have far greater potential to out-caste the Electric Vehicles. The automaker also shared that buyers shouldn’t be pushed in buying plug-in cars only, however, there must be options of gasoline, hybrid, and fuel-cell EVs available.
