Despite several local automakers embracing hybrid technology and launching hybrid models, Honda Atlas appears hesitant to take the plunge. Even newcomers like ‘Sazgar Engineering’ have introduced hybrid SUVs like the Haval H6 PHEV to cater to car enthusiasts. The question that lingers is when Honda plans to unveil its hybrid offerings in Pakistan.

Details In Disguise

At the Pakistan Auto Show (PAPS) 2023, PakWheels had a conversation with Honda officials. Referring to the arrival of Toyota’s locally assembled Hybrid Corolla Cross in early December, our auto expert Suneel Manj inquired about Honda’s hybrid car launch plans in Pakistan. The response was, ‘Inshallah Jaldi‘ (God willing, soon). The official mentioned that they are in the planning phase, and everything is in the pipeline. However, when asked about specific details such as the launch date or the target segment, the response was, ‘No idea, right now,’ keeping all the details under wraps.

As of now, Honda has not shared any information regarding the imminent launch date or month for their hybrid vehicles in Pakistan. This leaves us with no clues as to when Honda’s hybrid car will make their debut in the Pakistani market. Meanwhile, several locally assembled cars have recently entered the hybrid car realm, adding diversity to the market.”

Haval H6 PHEV

Sazgar launched the locally assembled Haval H6 in September 2022. The crossover SUV was introduced in two variants, 1.5T and 2.0T. The company officials gave us a complete factory tour showing the whole process of manufacturing H6.

According to the sources, the company is also planning to launch a locally assembled plug-in hybrid in Pakistan next year, which would be another huge achievement. The assembly of hybrid cars locally will undoubtedly revolutionize the auto industry in Pakistan as it will be a totally new and upgraded phase with the right step towards progress.

Hyundai Santa Fe

The car has 1.6 Turbocharged Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) GDi engine with displacement of 1598cc. The car produces 177hp at 5500RPMs and 265Nm of torque at 4500 RPMs. The combined system output, engine and hybrid, of the car is 227hp at 5500 RPMs and 350Nm of torque at 1000-4400 RPMs. The engine is mated with 6-speed automatic transmission with change by wire gear selector. Furthermore, the top variant comes with Multi-Terrain Mode (Snow, Mud, Sand) + Active on-demand 4-Wheel Drive (4WD).
