2019 McLaren Senna MSO “Merlin”

This 2019 McLaren Senna is one of 500 examples created to honor the accomplishments of driver Ayrton Senna during his tenure with the McLaren Formula 1 team from 1988 to 1993, where he achieved 35 race victories and three Drivers’ Championship titles.

Designed under the supervision of McLaren Automotive’s Rob Melville, the Senna utilizes the MonoCage III carbon-fiber monocoque platform, contributing to a minimum US-spec curb weight of 2,897 pounds. With active aerodynamic bodywork, the coupe generates an impressive 1,764 pounds of downforce at 155 mph, which is maintained throughout its manufacturer-claimed top speed of 211 mph.

This particular example features a bespoke color developed by McLaren Special Operations’ Darren “Merlin” Townsend, featuring Sorcerer Black paintwork with a pearlescent sparkle visible under specific lighting conditions. Factory-added gold pinstriping enhances the body lines, while gold-finished wing endplates adorned with the Merlin script and other unique details pay homage to Townsend.

The Senna is powered by a modified version of the twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine found in the McLaren 720S, known as the M840TR in this application. It delivers an output of 789 horsepower at 7,250 rpm and 590 lb-ft of torque at 5,500 rpm, transmitted to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch SSG automatic transaxle.

Additional performance features include active aerodynamics, carbon-ceramic brakes, staggered-size center-locking wheels, RaceActive Chassis Control II hydraulic suspension, and adjustable driving modes with various driver aids. The car also boasts dual-zone climate control, Bowers & Wilkins audio, Bluetooth connectivity, navigation, and touchscreen infotainment.
