The Porsche 944 is different things to different people. To those outside the traditional Porsche customer profile, the 944 was an easier entry point to the marque than the more aggressive 924. They loved the more forgiving ride delivered by the transaxle model, as produced by Audi in Neckarsulm, Germany.

To the purists, the fact the 2.5-litre in-line four-cylinder engine powering the revamped 924 S was developed by Porsche itself made it a “real” Porsche. Being the world’s fastest four-cylinder production car at the time didn’t hurt, either.

Others loved the unapologetically brutal shape of the 924 S2. Whatever your motive, this was–and is –an iconic drive. But what next? Here’s what. You make your 944 yours, from bumper to bumper – or spoiler to spoiler for the 944 2.7 (1989).

Purists will say if the delivery spec is good enough for Porsche, it’s good enough for them. Fair enough. Others see the car’s default profile as a starting point – the blank canvas on which to express how the car makes them feel. What their 944 means to them. That’s also cool.

Damon Wray, co-founder of DC Shoes, is the other kind. He’s the owner of an impressive Instagram roll – and at least one 944. Check it out. Tricked out in full Joy Division livery, with a dash of Mad Max, it’s a thing of brutal beauty.

I want that!

Of course, you do. So, your friends at Design 911 offer 10 upgrades to trick your 944 from factory settings to Factory Records. You’re welcome.

Great service?

Your car is only as good as the mill powering it, so don’t neglect engine hygiene. This bundle of OEM parts, sold as a  service pack, keeps things ticking over nicely while you get on to the glamorous stuff.

Anchors away?

Sometimes being unstoppable isn’t a good thing. So fit Porsche brake pads and discs. These packages cover seven models of the 944 and include front and rear replacements. High-performance models demand Brembo brakes, fed by stainless steel hoses and high-toned fluid.

Engine toil.

If so, let’s talk gasket sets. Engine head or bottom end, it pays to pick Porsche. Get yours herePorsche pistons work hard. So, replace like for like or upgrade to WÖssner. Choose from four forged piston kits for your 944.

Bad timing.

Could be. Snap a belt on this type of motor and the pistons keep slamming up and down. Bye bye belt, hello bent valves, broken lifters – maybe a broken camshaft. Don’t do that. Get a kit from Design 911. It includes cam belt, tensioner roller and idler roller, balance shaft belt and idler roller, and a timing belt tensioner roller. Belts, tensioners, rollers. They’re all here.

Holy Smoke.

Let’s pray it’s only an oil overfill, a common mistake for those not in the know. But let’s not mess about – a smoking engine may be something more serious. But it’s cool: Design 911 has everything you need to rebuild your engine if the worst happens – or change parts to stop that happening.

Bright Spark?

From air mass flow sensors through to wiring harnesses, Design 911 can help with your electrical issues. And we mean any. Windows, wipers, washer pumps – if it’s a motor or relay, let’s talk.

Cool fruit.

Whether air or water cooled, Porsche like to run their engines hot. And – being Porsche – that’s all handled by best-in-class engineering. Let’s help you keep cool with parts built with the same craft as the rest of the car.

Suspended animation.

What makes a Porsche what it is? Beyond the engine note, there’s the ride. Let’s keep your 944 running just how you like it. These wishbone ball joints, this adjustable suspension kit, this sporty variant, these adjustable Spax dampers, these KYB  or Koni shocks and these bushes will do just that.

Need a steer?

Whether it’s a rack, a pump, gaiter, rod, joint or shaft; belts pipes and hoses – we got this.

Tailpipe dream.

Need to replace your pipe? This sparkling stainless steel version is hard wearing and looks the part, while this cat will get you purring. Dansk make some lovely stuff, while these Cargraphic downpipes and mufflers do the biz in helping your car fizz. Choose what you need by manufacturer or part type here.

Wheels and seals

Porsche originals. Alloys and steels. Otto Fuchs and Oz. All wheels, all rims, all good. Doors, windows, bumpers, sunroofs, spoilers, bonnets, pedals, side sills, cabrio hoods. If it’s rubber and joins something to something else, it’s here.

Make your 944 yours alone.

We’re all different and see our cars from different perspectives. But if you want the best for your Porsche, there’s only one place to go. If you want Joy Division, place a New Order. See you soon.
