The Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) project in Peshawar has been a significant source of travel for the regular commutants in the city. With the improved public transportation and minimum traffic congestion in the city the project came a significant undertaking. However, the recent developments indicate that the project is facing a financial hurdle.

In a recent update, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provincial interim government has refused to grant approval for the disbursement of a long-delayed sum of Rs. 800 million to the BRT Peshawar project, as requested by the Transport Department. This situation has raised concerns about the project’s progress and the impact it may have on the local population.

Typically, the provincial government allocates Rs. 400 million to the BRT project each month to ensure its smooth functioning. However, a report reveals that the funds for May and June were not disbursed as expected.

Saddaf Kamil, the spokesperson for TransPeshawar, a company responsible for managing the BRT project, commented on this development. She informed that the Transport Department promptly reached out to the relevant authorities regarding the outstanding amount.

Resuming Payment Schedule

After the lapse of the two aforementioned months, the provincial government has resumed its usual payment schedule, as confirmed by Saddaf Kamil. This suggests that the government is taking steps to address the funding issue.
