PAMA – Car Sales Decreased By 55% Last Month

it’s been more than a year, car industry is in shambles, thanks to the country’s shattering economic charts. Dwindling production in the face of back-to-back production shutdowns, severe downtrend in car sales and profits has left the industry in something of a daze.

As per Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) report, car sales (year-on-year) plunged by staggering 55% selling 126,879 units in FY23 compared to 279,267 vehicles in fiscal year 2022. Meanwhile, month-over-month sales increased by 10%, selling 6,034 vehicles in June against 5,464 units sold in May.

Highlighting the motorcycles, the sales of two-wheelers observed a low of 15% (month-on-month) last month, selling 81,692 units in June compared to 96,017 bikes in May’23. Honda sold 75,056 bikes last month against 71,998 units in May. Whilst Suzuki sold 363 bikes in June compared to 820 in May. In the meantime, Yamaha sold 942 bikes last month contra 1,114 in May.

Similarly, sales of trucks and buses are decreased by 45.2% and 6%, respectively. Whereas the production of buses is up by 6% compared to 45.7 down in case of trucks. Moving to Jeep and pickups, sales of both vehicles are inclined by 29.5% and 33.3%, respectively.

Company-Wise Sales Breakdown

Toyota Indus Motors (INDU) reported a slight jump of 7% in its sales. The company sold 1,846 units in June against 1,718 units in May. (MoM growth: 7%)

Coming to Honda Atlas, the automaker’s sales jacked up by of 253%, selling 307 units last month compared to 87 units in May’23. (MoM growth: 253%)

Meanwhile, Pak Suzuki Motors Company’s sales witnessed a small increase of 2% in June, selling 3,009 cars against 2,958 cars in May. (MoM growth: 2%)

Hyundai Nishat sales increased by 11%, selling 558 units last month compared to 503 units in May. (MoM growth: 11%)

It is related to mention that all other car companies, Kia Lucky Motors, Master Changan Motors, Regal Motors, MG Motors, and Al-Haj Proton, are not PAMA members. Their sales numbers are not included in the report.

Car-Wise Sales Breakdown

Pakistan Suzuki Motor Company sold 1,913 units of Alto, 264 units of Suzuki Cultus, 165 units of Suzuki Wagon R, 278 units of Suzuki Swift, 262 units of Suzuki Bolan, and 127 units of Suzuki Ravi.

Toyota Indus sold 984 units of Corolla and Yaris and 862 units of Fortuner and Hilux.

Honda Atlas sold 227 unit of City and Civic and 80 units of BR-V and HR-V.

Hyundai Nishat sold 88 units of Elantra, 77 units of Sonata, 80 units of Porter, and 313 units of Tucson.
