When the nation is facing record-high inflation in the face of ongoing economic slump, Sindh government bring a relief for daily commuters. The provincial government has decided not to uptick the fares the People’s Bus Service (PBS) for the next six months.

Sindh Information, Transport, and Mass Transit Minister Sharjeel Memon stated that the provincial cabinet has approved to freeze the PBS’s fare-hike for 6 months. Mr. Memon further informed that the government will provide subsidies to support and facilitate this public service.

In June, Minister Sharjeel Memon oversaw the launch of a smartphone app for PBS users. During the event, he highlighted that the newly introduced app is compatible with both iPhone and Android devices. The app allows users to conveniently access information about fares, schedules, and other relevant details related to the People’s Bus Service.

During the announcement, Minister Sharjeel Memon highlighted the advanced capabilities of the smartphone app, which enables real-time monitoring of the People’s Bus Service (PBS) by the provincial administration. Additionally, the app offers crucial intra-city commuter service information, not only for Karachi but also for other cities.

Furthermore, Memon disclosed the government’s upcoming initiatives, including the introduction of e-taxis and the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project.

He proudly stated that the Red Line BRT will be Pakistan’s first-ever biogas-powered BRT system. The combined cost of the Yellow Line BRT and Red Line BRT projects is estimated to be around Rs. 200 billion.

The Sindh government has put forth a proposal to utilize the People’s Bus Service (PBS) as a means to connect rural areas such as Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana, Sukkur, and Mirpurkhas with urban regions.

The objective behind this proposal is to facilitate and simplify travel for commuters, as well as to extend the reach of the PBS beyond the boundaries of Karachi. By implementing this plan, the government aims to enhance accessibility and connectivity for people residing in both rural and urban areas.
